You sit there with her in your arms.
Just as you always wished she would be.
But this wasn’t your moment of triumph.
She was crying over the last guy who broke her heart.
You listen to her say how she got hurt.
She wishes that someone would treat her right.
You look down at her trying to muster the courage.
To tell her that you could be that guy.
That you’ll make everything alright.
That she means the world to you.
That you would give her anything she could desire.
She’d be your one and only, your queen.
Just as you begin to speak she interrupts.
I’m just glad I have a friend like you.
You’ll always be my best friend.
Then at that moment your heart breaks and you’re crushed.
You want to tell her, but the look on her face stops you cold.
She seems more content, more happy.
So you keep your mouth shut.
Because just for now she’s happy.
And that’s all you care about.
As you walk her watch off knowing.
That as long as she’s not with you.
She’s only going to get hurt more.
You want to get out and chase after her.
Grab her in your arms and tell her all that you feel.
Tell her that you love her, that no matter what happens you always will.
Hold her close and tell her you won’t let her get hurt anymore.
But you just sit there, you can’t bring yourself to tell her.
Because for now she’s happy and that’s all that you care about.
